This family business was built around the fisheries of Port Phillip Bay.
At the age of 17 Dennis White began operating a scallop boat in the bay. Dennis was deeply immersed in the fishing industry after several years and recognized the growing demand for accessible seafood for the general public. A small retail outlet founded by Dennis and his wife Mary opened in St. Leonards in 1983, as St. Leonards Seafoods. As the business grew in popularity, they branched out opening up another retail store in Geelong. With high demand for fresh local seafood in the area, St. Leonards Seafood moved into the wholesale sector as White Fisheries. Sons Greg and Mick joined the business as it grew forming integral parts of onshore operations. Both sons are qualified fisherman operating their own vessels for the company at various stages. Continued success led to the opening of the family’s new wholesale/retail processing plant in Drysdale. Within easy reach of Geelong and surrounding areas. Drysdale was selected as a central point in the Bellarine peninsula to provide the best accessible seafood. Quality fresh seafood is displayed in the retail store each day, while also servicing the wholesale needs of restaurants, hotels, independent and major supermarkets.
